Position Overview

Our fast-paced nonprofit organization seeks a full-time Communications Manager with a background in strategizing, developing, writing, managing, and executing multimedia communications. This is a hands-on position that requires a unique set of skills to serve our dynamic agency. Strong experience in the areas of journalism, public relations, marketing, and branding is highly desirable. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working on a variety of projects simultaneously. The Communications Manager works in collaboration with—and reports to—the Chief Communications Officer.

 Scope of Responsibilities

Perform duties that encompass agency communications, marketing, public relations, media relations, fundraising campaigns, awareness campaigns, and special event promotions. Develop specialized communications materials for a variety of inter-agency departments, including child abuse, domestic violence, and sexual assault program areas, as well as community education & social change departments. Assist in developing and managing campaigns for our agency’s signature fundraising events and community awareness events. Ensure all communications have a cohesive brand voice and brand-centric graphic style. In conjunction with the CCO, write, edit and produce content for all internal and public-facing agency materials. Collaborate with the agency’s graphic designer to provide creative direction on print and digital projects. Serve as a member of the Brand Identity Committee (BIC) to guide brand activities and brand attributes, helping to ensure that projects, activities and materials are in keeping with our mission and our brand identity. Attend other agency meetings, agency events, and community events as assigned.


 Writing: Diverse writing skills required to create content and messaging for print, digital and social media platforms. The chosen candidate will feel comfortable writing in a variety of styles—from long-form press releases and informational brochures to short-form web content and social media posts. Other writing projects may include special event campaigns and awareness event campaigns, which may encompass developing content for event invitations, posters, rack cards, and signage; postcards and mailers; sponsor signage; and print & digital advertising. A background developing cohesive campaign strategies and creative rationales is preferred. The chosen candidate will adhere to LACASA’s Brand Identity Style Guide. Familiarity with the Associated Press Stylebook is highly desirable.

Project Management: Experience managing projects from inception to completion, including creating project timelines and developing milestone deadlines, is preferred. Familiarity with project management software such as is desirable. Experience working with graphic designers, printers, and other suppliers/vendors is a plus.

Digital/Web: Experience creating digital communications such as e-blasts, newsletters, and other digital communications is essential. This position involves writing content for the agency’s website and the agency’s charity resale store website, and creating web production requests for the web graphic designer. Basic skills in—and knowledge of—WordPress is highly desirable.

Social Media: Proficient in creating social media content across multiple platforms. Experience developing annual social media strategies is a plus. Familiarity with using a social media management system is preferable.

Technology: High comfort level using and/or learning a variety of software systems is essential, and will include utilizing a donor database/donor relationship building system (Raiser’s Edge); project management system (, social media management system (Buffer); website platform (WordPress), and others as needed. Must be adept at using Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.

Collaboration: The ideal candidate will enjoy working with diverse groups of people—from LACASA leadership, staff, volunteers and board members to interacting with community supporters, donors, sponsors, businesses, and organizations. This position involves attending and providing support at our annual fundraising events and community awareness events. It also encompasses interacting with members of the media.

Additional Information: The Communications Manager will attend necessary internal training programs to gain an understanding of our agency, our services and programs, and our client confidentiality policy. This position will involve some direct client contact on limited occasions.

Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing or related field is required. A minimum of five years professional experience is preferred.

Supervisor: Chief Communications Officer

Position Details: This is a hybrid position involving a combination of in-office and remote scheduling. An agency laptop and cell phone will be provided. This is a Regular Full-time/ Exempt Status position. Occasional night and weekend hours are required to attend agency fundraising and awareness events. Must have the ability to occasionally stand for long periods and/or lift items 20 pounds or under.
