Host of Cinderella’s Closet

September 13, 2018 | LACASA Center recently awarded Jim Gilligan, owner of Snedicor’s Green Earth Cleaners, with a recognition plaque honoring the 10th anniversary of hosting Cinderella’s Closet.  Gilligan, who is Snedicor’s Chief Operating Officer, first began hosting the charity event in 2008.

Cinderella’s Closet is an eco-friendly, pop-up shop that offers gently-loved party dresses for high school girls at affordable prices. All dresses are just $25 and proceeds provide help for victims and survivors of interpersonal violence at LACASA Center.

“I love that that Cinderella’s Closet is an opportunity to have a positive effect in the lives of girls,” said Gilligan.

“The support of LACASA is an example of one of the many long-term relationships Snedicor’s has maintained,” he said. “Child abuse, family violence and rape are acts that defy understanding, yet they exist right here in Livingston County. It is a privilege and an honor to help victims and survivors create new lives and build new futures.”

Snedicor’s transforms its business operations at the Brighton store each year during prom and homecoming season. Girls come and shop with their mothers or friends to find storybook dresses at vintage prices.

“We are so grateful to Jim and the Snedicor’s team for allowing us to take over their space, create window displays, set up dressing rooms, and transform their reception area—not once, but twice a year,” said LACASA Community Education Director, Nicole Matthews-Creech.

“The girls at our area high schools look forward to these shopping events and enjoy modeling dresses for our seasonal photo shoots. They appreciate that Cinderella’s Closet is open just for them and that the dress sales fund an important local cause,” Creech said.

Snedicor’s lengthy commitment to Livingston County is evident through its timeline. The original family business began in 1916 and has been in the Gilligan family since 1927. “I love that Snedicor’s has such a rich, long history,” said Gilligan. “I appreciate our customers and employees and the long-term relationships we have cultivated.”

The Snedicor’s Brighton location continues to host the final days of Cinderella’s Closet’s homecoming boutique on Friday, Sept. 14, from 3-8 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 15, from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Snedicor’s is located at 8688 W. Grand River Ave., Brighton. Dress donations are accepted all year long at both Snedicor’s locations in Brighton and Howell.
