Keeping Penny’s Legacy Alive!
LACASA hosted The Penny Project – a special way to highlight the special love, healing, and bond only animals can provide. This unique project commemorates Penny, LACASA’s first Canine Advocate, and the vital services that she provided to the children we serve. We included donor’s pet’s names in Penny’s portrait, painted by local artist Susan Pominville, showcasing the profound impact of animals on the human healing journey.

Our First Canine Advocate, Penny, helped LACASA grow into the agency we are today.
Penny passed away in October 2024, but during her decade of service she helped hundreds of children and adults with her calming presence during forensic interviews, witness testimony, and in our Crisis Shelter.
The Penny Project helps us secure our Home for Good, a state-of-the-art facility serving survivors of interpersonal violence, while giving the community the opportunity to honor a pet that has made a difference in their lives.
